Lorrin Andrews -- missionary, preacher, schoolmaster, printer, poet, musician, linguist, judge, counselor of kings and man of God -- was born in Connecticut in 1795. ... Three days before his 32nd birthday, he wrote from Kentucky to the Mission Board in Boston, offering himself as a Christian missionary wherever they might send him. When his modest letter drew an encouraging response, he accepted the assignment to the distant land of Hawaii."
