In the history of modern Tonga certain outstanding Europeans have significantly influenced the changes which occurred in Tongan society. Many of these personalities were Wesleyan missionaries who were very much responsible for what Tonga is now. One of these missionaries was the Reverend Roger Page who devoted his whole life to promote the interests and welfare of the Tongan people. In spite of the significant role Page played in the development of Tonga during the first half of this century no serious study has been carried out on his life and work in Tonga--Preface.
