Summary: "Captain James Cook of the British Navy discovered the Hawaiian Islands in 1778. A midshipman in his crew, George Vancouver, returned to Hawaii 15 years later as a Navy captain in his own right. Captain Vancouver brought the first cattle to the islands in 1793. Later, on his third voyage, he brought more. These importations started a chain of events of vast importance to the history and economy of the Hawaiian Islands"--Page 1.
