Agriculture accounts for 80% of its economy, 50% of employment and almost 90% of local food production. Limited landmass (700km2), natural hazards, economic dependency and rapid population growth hinder agricultural development. These constraints are the motives for the ecologically sustainable development of marine resources as the possible viable solutions for subsistence, culture, conservation and extra sources of income for Tonga"--Abstract.
