Kato teu (decorated ceremonial baskets) is one of several types of baskets made in Tonga. Kato teu are Tongan cultural items of exchange and are often presented as gifts during weddings, funerals, and birthdays. The art of kato teu is primarily in decoration, in the ingenuity and creativity that goes into decorating ready-made baskets.

Height cm x length cm x width cm.

This kato teu is made of stitched together coconut husk on the outside, woven mat stitched to the inside, and decorated with shells glued to the outside.
