500 ## - GENERAL NOTE
General note "This book is a reprint of the memoirs of Obookiah as printed in the first edition of 1818 which was printed the same year as Obookiah died. At that time the missionaries had not gone to Hawaii so the book does not tell of that. Now with the reprinting of the book in 1956 we can add a preface and supplement, telling the results of the missionaries going to Hawaii. Especially telling of Titus Coan through whose preaching came 'The Great Awakening.' Then we will add a few poems and pictures too, things both old and new. ... We traded Titus Coan for Obookiah. It was a good trade, resulting in blessings both to America and Hawaii. Connecticut and Hawaii are almost the same size. Obookiah was born in Kau, Hawaii, he lived by faith and died in Connecticut and was buried at Cornwall. Titus Coan was born in Connecticut, he came to Hawaii in 1835, he lived by faith and died in Hilo in 1882. He is buried in Hilo. ... By D. B. Eberhart"--Preface.
