500 ## - GENERAL NOTE
General note Fe'iloakitau Kaho composed this ta'anga lakalaka in 1943, during the reign of Queen Sālote, while he was the Government Magistrate, Fakamaau, of Ha'apai. The ta'anga was revived in 1970 at the request of Ve'ehala, chairman of the Dance Committee, Komiti Faiva, organizing the Emancipation celebrations, Kato'anga 'o e Tau'ataina, and performed as a lakalaka dance by the combined villages of Lifuka, Ha'apai. In 1970 the woman's haka was taught by Luseane Tuita and the men's haka by Suli Kalkale, who also set the words to music and taught people to sing them. The text we have presented was written down, possibly by a performer, during the Emancipation celebrations at Pangai Mala'e in Nuku'alofa in June, 1970. The work was known to the dancers as the "Lakalaka Lofia", but T.P.K. recalls that her father himself called it "Ko e Kumi - the search."
