500			_aA wooden log drum, also referred to as a slit drum or tongue drum, is a traditional percussion instrument that consists of a hollowed-out log or wooden box with slits or tongues of varying lengths carved or cut into its surface. These slits or tongues are what produce the instrument’s distinct tones when struck with mallets, sticks, or even hands. Log drums come in many sizes, from small handheld instruments to large, stationary ones that require multiple players to operate. These log drums were not only used for music but also served as a means of communication within communities. The instrument’s ability to produce different tones made it suitable for conveying messages across long distances, with specific rhythms and patterns representing specific meanings.
